Long Term Athletic Development: Active Start Phase (Phase 1)

Active Start Phase
Ages 0-6 Boys/0-6 Girls (developmental Age)

The goal of Phase 1 is to get children moving and keep them active. It is easy to play competitive games while training your child without them knowing it. Work on fundamental skills such as running, twisting, throwing, catching, jumping, crawling, and kicking. The hardest thing that parents will need to fight is coaching your children on “proper” skills. Research has shown that the harder, faster, or higher a child performs these-neural patterns are being formed to allow children to do these at a higher state as they mature. Remember, who cares where the ball goes…just get it there as hard as you can. Encourage fun activity that integrates these movements. These are the basic skills for all future development.
